Built for Tradies, worn by choice: the Pirtek cap
Pirtek’s people are out in trucks and on-site every day, keeping hydraulic and industrial equipment running for construction, transport, and earthmoving crews across the country. Their brand is built on being practical, reliable, and a bit no-nonsense. So when it came to headwear, the brief was simple to say and harder to deliver. Make something a traditional tradie would actually want to wear, not just accept as a freebie.
The brief
Tradies are particular about caps. Get it wrong and it ends up in the truck glovebox, never worn. Get it right and it becomes part of someone’s daily kit. Pirtek wanted a cap that felt familiar enough to fit straight into a trade environment, but had enough edge to feel like a genuine piece of headwear rather than corporate giveaway gear.
The design direction
We took our cue from the structured trucker caps you’d recognise from brands like Richardson, the kind that have crossed over from workwear into everyday fashion, popping up everywhere from job sites to shows like Landman. That mid-profile shape and lived-in finish carries real credibility with a tradie audience because it already looks the part before a logo even goes on it.
We landed on a navy colourway that works with almost anything in a tradie’s wardrobe or ute, and built the branding in rather than slapping it on top. A woven badge on the front carries the Pirtek mark with proper depth and texture, and a custom printed inner tape finishes the inside so the detail holds up even when the cap comes off.
The result
The cap reads as something someone picked for themselves, not something handed out at a trade show. That’s the real test for merchandise like this. It’s not whether people take it, it’s whether they keep wearing it once the event’s over.
